The President met with Premier Kuupik Kleist of Greenland to talk about ways to strengthen cooperation in such areas as green growth, resource development, and Arctic shipping routes.
In an effort to tackle the issue, The President has championed what is dubbed the“low carbon, green growth” policy, one of the president’s trademark policies that calls for seeking economic growth through environment-friendly technology and industry without releasing greenhouse gases.
Danish Crown Prince Frederik told Lee that he hopes countries like South Korea will help develop Greenland while preserving its environment. The President said in response that he came to Greenland with “the spirit of Green Growth.”
Later in the day, The President held talks with Premier Kleist about ways to boost cooperation in green growth and resources development, saying South Korea is willing to work actively together to transform the “environmental crisis” into “economic opportunities.”
The President is the first South Korean president to visit Greenland.
He will visit Norway and Kazakhstan later this week.
