The Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Corporation selected 10 universities as low carbon green campuses so that they can lead low carbon green growth by developing human resources as green industry experts and building green campuses for greenhouse gas reduction. The ministry will provide them with financial and technological support.

Reflecting the government’s green growth policies to their curriculum, the selected universities will provide education on green industry; build green campuses for greenhouse gas reduction; and encourage the community to participate in practicing green lifestyle.

※ 10 Selected green universities: Seoul Womens University, Dongguk University (Gyeongju campus), Chungnam National University, Silla University, Yonsei University (Wonju campus), Yeungjin College, Myongji University, Gyeongin National University of Education (Gyeonggi campus), Kangnam University and Kemyung College University

Seoul Womens University organized an eco-campus project team in 2009 and has conducted a STOP CO2 campaign. Dongguk University Gyeongju campus presented a plan to provide ecological environment education connected with temple stay. Also, green certification training program among Korea-China-Japan is a remarkable plan.

The selected green campuses will receive financial support of 1.2million won for three years and technological support from the Korea Environment Corporation so that they can calculate greenhouse gas emission by each campus and make proper strategies to reduce it.

Around the middle of the next month, the selected 10 universities, the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Corporation plan to make an agreement on low carbon green campus and begin to conduct the project intensively.
