The Korea National Park Service said it would operate 14 electric vehicles and 58 electric bicycles for eco-friendly patrolling in national parks.
Among 250 vehicles KNPS has operated for patrolling and working in national parks, almost every vehicle is truck or recreational vehicle which uses diesel. However, electric vehicles and bicycles can run 50km and 30km by one charging respectively. They are planned to be run for short-distance patrolling at low-lying areas where are crowded with visitors.
KNPS expects that 92 tons of CO2 will be reduced annually and problems by exhaust and noise from diesel vehicles will be solved with the introduction of electric vehicles.
An official from KNPS said electric vehicles are suitable for controlling in clean national parks and favorable to visitors’ pleasant visiting. In addition, introduction of electric vehicles to national parks will be of help to encourage distribution of electric vehicles in domestic market.
