As a part of low carbon green growth policy, the Ministry of Environment made an agreement with the Korea Institute of Registered Architects (KIRA) on diffusion of green design so that eco-friendly construction materials can be considered at the early-design stage.
?
On September 8, 2010, Minister of Environment Lee Maanee and President of the Korea Institute of Registered Architecture Choi Young-jip signed the agreement and about 130 from architectural community were in attendance.
?
Based on the agreement, architects are expected to take the lead in creating eco-friendly spaces by using eco-friendly construction materials so as to prepare for increasing demand for energy in construction field and preserve limited resources and environment.
?
Main contents of the agreement include the followings:
* KIRA makes and implements plans to train 50,000 architectural designers on green design every year.
* KIRA collects good examples of designing eco-friendly buildings and using eco-friendly construction materials and distributes them through its website and publication.
* MOE provides new information including certification of eco-friendly products and improved institution, supports architectural designers who have contributed to green design and actively publicizes performance regarding green design.
?
As the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute made a voluntary agreement with the Korea Price Research Center on August 17 to provide information on eco-friendly construction materials including price, standard, and photos to private sectors as well as public sectors so that they can calculate green design expenses easily, this agreement on green design is expected to become more effective.
