For the past two years since the government, companies and people began to cooperate in conducting green growth policy, there have been tangible results with regard to environmental issues.
?
Most of all, institutional foundations including Presidential Committee on Green Growth and action plans have been built. In addition, public awareness on green growth and the necessity of green lifestyle has become improved and detailed policies obtained impetus undergoing trial and error.

Detailed accomplishments by each field contain the followings:
1.???? Climate change adaptation: Emphasis have been put on building foundation of greenhouse gas management and four major rivers restoration for greenhouse gas reduction and climate change adaptation, which can be cornerstone of low carbon society. As the Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Research Center was built, greenhouse gas reduction policies could be carried out in a more systematic way. Also, greenhouse gas target management system provided the foundation on which greenhouse gas emission by about 600 companies can be efficiently reduced.

Among 1,281 projects for improving water quality of four major rivers, 172 (13%) have been completed and 597 began the construction. With the real-time monitoring system covering the entire watershed, water quality can be scientifically managed even after the completion of the projects.

2.???? Expansion of driving force behind green growth: Thanks to the investment in developing green technology, the level of it has been improved and export of environmental industry has increased by 30percent annually. Besides environmental pollution disposal devices, more diverse environmental industries such as landfill gas power plant and water supply and sewerage construction made inroads into foreign markets.

3.???? Spread of green lifestyle: With the Green Start campaign, green lifestyle has been spread across the nation. Tips for green lifestyle have been distributed to 10 fields including households, schools, and offices and several detailed campaigns such as refraining from turning on lights excessively, green travel, and green sports have been conducted. In addition, carbon points have been provided as incentives to households which save electricity, water service and gas.

4.???? Policies by which people can closely experience the improvement of quality of life have been carried out through checking environmental safety of playgrounds and providing water supply and sewerage for rural areas, etc.

Based on the accomplishments for the two years, the Ministry plans to conduct major tasks more actively and collect successful cases for which people can express sympathy. Also, in the cooperation with the Presidential Committee on Green Growth, the Ministry will hold a symposium on August 25 in Seoul to supplement unsatisfactory matters in green growth policies and seek for future-oriented measurements.
