Information on greenhouse gas will be managed in a more comprehensive and systematic way
- Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Research Center of Korea is launched
The Ministry of Environment and the Presidential Committee on Green Growth held an inauguration ceremony of Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Research Center of Korea in Seoul on June 15.
Based on the Framework Act on Low Carbon Green Growth, which has been enforced since April 14, 2010, the center was established as a first comprehensive national greenhouse gas information system.
The center will play the following major functions:
1. Analyzing and setting national greenhouse gas reduction target and the target by sector
2. Managing national comprehensive greenhouse gas statistics
3. Managing detailed information on energy and greenhouse gas management system of businesses and public institutions
4. Supporting international organization related to low carbon green growth and building up cooperation with developing countries
Under the vision ‘Setting up a global greenhouse gas reduction think tank for low carbon green growth,’ the center plans to conduct the following tasks:
1. Building national greenhouse gas information management system of the international level
2. Improving capability to research on greenhouse gas reduction in a comprehensive and systematic way
3. Building global networking and outreach for greenhouse gas reduction
- Holding the International Conference on Post-Kyoto Climate Change Mitigation Modeling from June 17 to 18.
